Happy Yellow Wedding on an Irish Island

Ok, so this isn’t a wedding on a super sunshiny day but it was one of the brightest happiest weddings so full of love that I’ve ever done!

Dee and Zarius live in London but she is Irish and he, South African. They chose Kerry because Dee’s mother was from here and she and her sisters spent many happy summers of her childhood here. Once Dee brought Zarius to Kerry he loved the area too {of course!} so Kerry it was when they started the wedding planning.

They fell in love with the church on Valentia Island off the west coast of Co Kerry and I suggested the Royal Hotel on the island as I had done a wedding there previously  and really enjoyed it. There is something about having a wedding in a  village and being able to walk to the church and reception through the quiet streets that I think is just wonderful.

Dee knew she wanted bright happy pops of color. The girls were choosing their own yellow dresses and were planned to wear red shoes.

The church ceremony was always going to be very important. Though Dee’s parents had both passed away, the family element was strong and there was lots of support and emotion. Dee’s nieces were junior bridesmaids and her two sisters walked her down the aisle to Zarius.

Dee and Zarius had been to a friends wedding in England and was very drawn to the friend’s photographer at the time. After looking in depth for a local equivalent Dee just couldn’t get Jonny MP out of her head so I asked her if she would like me to contact him. He was over the moon to come and shoot a wedding in Ireland. And when I sent him a link to the island and location there was definitely no was he was not going to come and shoot this wedding. I think he was as excited as the couple.

The photographs show it. As mentioned, it was a rainy day but Jonny captured the warmth and love of the day – as well as all of the details!

Much of the theme running through the day and the stationery, were bright yellow billy balls. A friend of Dee’s did the invitations, mass booklets, table plan, table numbers {table numbers were written in English, Irish and Afrikaan} and everything paper fit into the fun and bright happy scheme.

Dee meticulously hand folded an unbelievable number of paper pom poms which she carried over in her suit case and we fluffed up the day before.

Dee and Zarious took the time and effort to find photos of ALL of their guests and had them printed off in Polaroid photo format as a place setting for each person. Talk about taking time and care for your guests!

Touching speeches included Irish and South African traditions but also lots of laughter and joy.

My first thanks go to the beautiful Dee and dashing Zarius for letting me be part of their day. After that, well, lots of people to thank, starting with Jonny MP again {and you can head over to his website for more of D & Z photos!}, also to everyone at The Royal Valentia Hotel , Rev Michael at St John the Baptists. As well as Leona from Every Occasion Florist who got it so right again! Aileen at Beauty for Brides , local hairdresser Marianne, An Corcan for the naked cake, Sean Tracey for the ceremony music and Renovator, the band for keeping them dancing all night!

Phew. But what a day!
